Any chance that you and Uncle Dick can stop by the ceremony? I bet that would be one heck of a photo opportunity! I'm guessing that you might be able to get an hour pass since he's SO close to discharge...and stable enough. Even if he's in a wheelchair.

No, that's way too far to drive, especially back at night. We've got too much going on right now, and need to concentrate here. Wednesday is a big day -- I still haven't found anyone to help me get him up two flights of stairs. The medical transport people won't do that. I found a home health agency that will send someone by for a 4-hour minimum, but I'm afraid they won't be sending a burly guy. Dad and I might be left to do this on our own, which is possible, but will be draining and stressful.
Dick, David and I are going to N. Vietnam and Laos tomorrow. Gone there weeks. We will check on you through the blog and plan a visit to see you when we return. love you, Gayle and David
Good Morning,
This is Scott Liefeld, I met your dad last year at Flabob when I held an airplane gathering there last April. I will be there again this year. I have been following your Blogs to see his progress. I work for the Los Angeles City Fire Department In the Equipment Engineering Unit. I get to design the equipment the firefighters use. We have three fire stations near you, 60s, 86's and 78's. They may just give you a hand. If you like, you can call me at work today and I will ask them for you. We can decide which station is closest to you. I will not be in the office on Wed. so I will need to do this on Tuesday before 3PM. My work number is 213-485-6137. This is not something they normally do but since he is a friend (I have met him once)they may do it.
Regards, Fellow Pilot.

Yup. Go with the fire department! I work often with the New York City firemen who are on the DART team when I respond to earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, etc. and they can make anything happen. It may not be legal, it may not be kosher, it may not be by the books, BUT if it needs doing, those are the guys you go to in a pinch. They have been my salvation on more than one occasion....and my source of sanity on more disasters than I can recall. I would do anything for those guys. Ask Scott to contact his people.
